How would you design the future of car insurance?

Make an app designed for now and later

MetroMile, the auto insurance company, are pioneers in so much of what has become commoditized in today’s market. They have earned a reputation and set a standard in pay-per-mile insurance. 

Our project together offered MetroMile a chance to blaze ahead during a time of unprecedented acceleration within the automotive insurance & fintech markets. Together, we created a strategy and roadmap for MetroMile that sets their product well into the future.


Prototyping

I worked with the MM executive team to identify the largest opportunities and constraints for the MM product and the company as a whole.

After a deep dive into the current experience, conducting design research, and concepting the future I worked closely with the engineering and design teams to collaborate and bring the product vision together.

A changing technology landscape

From HUDs to Audio, to Integrated Digital Cockpits, vehicles are more and more like computers on wheels. As such, we worked extensively to concept and prototype experiences that are popular today on our phone or computer as they will soon find themselves reinvented front and center in future vehicles.

With 5G IOT becoming increasingly available, data-rich content is enabling a rich ecosystem of interconnectivity. From over-the-air updates, to OEM integration, to 5G - Telematics acts as a pillar that enables a new generation of vehicle information and interactions.

Personalized Driving

Conversational and rich in personality, we designed interactions at every touchpoint and delivered on a tailored experience. A personalized driving experience means that we are aligned with what matters to MM customers: what moves them to drive. We are also aligned with their lifestyle outside of their automotive experiences. 

Our designs featured a connected and enabled system for all of the vehicles in multi-member households. Families can get an idea of where their new drivers are with a personalized risk assessment and live feedback when it’s appropriate.

The Journey

We set the stage and created the systems. The MetroMile team continues to transform the customer experience, from integrated customer interactions across a variety of OEMs, to payment freedom, and a newly designed and personalized driving experience. We located opportunities previously unseen and immediately improved the customer experience for the auto insurance provider from growth to customer satisfaction.
